At 16th December 1971 Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto refused to comply with the UN resolution that called for cease fire and cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. After days he spent resting due to "flu" when world debated what to do when he finally showed up he tore up the resolution and walked away. Fact was with full Soviet support Indians had bypassed most of 45000 regular troops spread over in East Pakistan(through hellebore landing) and were closing in on Dhaka. Situation was desperate, handful(roughly two division) of our troops were almost our of ammunition. We didn't even attack with vigor in the west due to several factors including Indo Soviet treaty of Friendship and Co operations. Our forces were outnumbered 11-1 by Mitro Bahini(Indian Army And Mukti Bahini Alliance). However we were prepared in the west, and the international system of alliances gave us some sort of leverage. Read the text of UN resolution 307 and make up your mind why did Bhutto tear it. How is it any less treacherous then what Mir Jaffar or Mir Sadiq did?
Here is the resolution passed on 3rd of December

Then there is the resolution passed on 21st December 1971(Bhutto walked away on 16th December). Had Bhutto not commit ed treason history of 1971 would have been different. At worst India and Pakistan would both have to withdraw and Pakistan Army would get peaceful and Honourable exist along with refugees.
